National Conference Party (NC) chief Farooq Abdullah on Friday said the Amarnath Yatra must continue for two months as it is beneficial to the poor of the region and to other pilgrims.
"Pilgrimage must take place for two months, because, not only do people have darshan, it is the poor people of that region that survive, who earn their living which lasts for a whole year. And, I think, any restriction on that is not what I would want. I want it to be free for all the two months," Abdullah told media here.
Earlier this month, Hurriyat hardliner Syed Ali Shah Geelani had demanded that the annual Amarnath Yatra be restricted to just 30 days, citing the safety of pilgrims and environmental concerns as concerns.
