Irish amateur Paul Dunne stunned the golfing world by jointly leading The Open Championship in the belated third round at St Andrews, alongside former winner Louis Oosthuizen and Australia's Jason Day.

The 22-year-old posted a six-under-par 66 for 12 overall, while Oosthuizen and Day carded a 67 each, the BBC reported.

Meanwhile, reigning Masters and US Open champion Jordan Spieth produced an aggressive game to storm back into title contention. He trails by one stroke off the lead at 11-under- par after firing a sublime third-round 66.

The tournament has been extended to Monday after losing considerable amount of time on the second day due to weather delays at the Old Course.

This is the second time in the tournament's 155-year history since 1988 that play has been pushed to Monday.
