Amazon today announced a long-term agreement with Tamil Nadu's most successful producer, Kalaipuli S Thanu's production company V Creations, making Amazon Prime Video India the exclusive subscription streaming home for two of the Tamil film industry's highest grossing films.

These include, 'Kabali' starring megastar Rajinikanth, Winston Chao and Radhika Apte and 'Theri,' starring Vijay and Amy Jackson.

Earning over Rs. 500 crores, in combined worldwide box office collections, this is the first time that top Tamil films will be available on a video streaming service at almost the same time as their satellite TV premiere.

"Kalaipuli S Thanu is one of the most successful producers in the Tamil film industry and we are thrilled to partner with him," said Nitesh Kripalani, Director and Country Head, Prime Video India.

"Southern cinema and star-driven Tamil films have emerged as among the most successful Indian content in the last decade, finding both national reach and viewers. A large number of Thanu's films have been commercial blockbusters, of which two are among the top-ten highest grossing Tamil films of all time. We are certain that our Prime members will love the inclusion of these smashing titles in our selection within a few weeks from their theatrical release," Kripalani added.

Producer and owner of V Creations, Kalaipuli S Thanu said, "Kabali and Theri are two of Tamil's highest grossing films of all times and Amazon Prime Video is the perfect partner to help us reach the millions of fans of these movies through their unparalleled digital reach. We are aware of this new way of consuming movie content and thus couldn't be more happy to mark our presence on such sought after platforms."

"This is the first time that Tamil films of this demand and popularity will be available on a streaming platform and we are very excited about the same. We are confident that partnering with a credible brand like Amazon will go a long way in ensuring that our content will not only be seamlessly streamed, but will also see a huge demand from users of Prime Video," he added.
