American track and field athlete Trayvon Bromell has become a sprint sensation after the college student blew away the competition as he finished a 100 metres race in just 9.77 seconds.

While sprinting at the Big 12 outdoor track and field championships in Lubbock, Texas, Bromell would have shattered the US national college record, but a tailwind of 4.2 metres per second stopped him as a legal wind is of 2.6 metres per second or less.

However, the time was good enough for Bromell as he is now the third fastest in college history, New.com.au reported.

Meanwhile Florida State's Ngoni Makusha from Zimbabwe set the college record of 9.89 in 2011, while Jamaican superstar Usain Bolt broke his own world record with a sensational 9.58 in 2009, the report added.
