Launching a frontal attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national secretary Siddharth Nath Singh on Sunday said that party chief Amit Shah's rally in Kolkata will sound the poll bugle for the 2016 assembly elections where the call will be for a 'Mamata-free Bengal'.

"The Modi wave has frightened Mamata. And due to that she tried to stop Amitji's rally in Kolkata. But that attempt didn't work. Our rally today will sound the poll bugle for 2016 and it will be to have a 'Mamata-free Bengal' in 2016," Singh said.

The BJP president will address a rally in front of the landmark Victoria House in Kolkata later today. Shah' rally in Kolkata comes after the Calcutta High Court granted him permission for the same.

The ruling TMC Government in West Bengal had earlier stated that it would appeal against the decision of the court.

Earlier on Thursday, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation had refused Shah the permission to hold a rally in the city, thereby deepening the feud between the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the BJP.

The party had applied as early as July for permission to hold a public meeting outside Victoria Hall, where Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee holds an annual rally every July for her party.
