Amity Varsity hands over degrees to over 4000 graduands

Amity University has organized the 9th Convocation 2013 for three consecutive days - December 5- 7, wherein, 9,827 successfully qualified graduands (students about to graduate) of several programs would receive their under-graduate and post-graduate degrees, diplomas, trophies and medals.

During the second day of convocation, over 4, 474 graduands from 33 institutions of Amity gathered at Amity University to receive their much awaited degrees and diplomas.

Graduands, clad in beautiful black robes with caps and coloured scarves representing their different programmes, presented a beautiful picture.

The university's Directorate of Distance and Online Education held its "4th Virtual Convocation" for 1250 graduands located in Africa, enrolled under Pan African e- Network Project with Amity.

 

Twenty-six universities of Africa located in Benin, Botswana, Cameroon, Gabon, Ghana, Lesotho, Malawi, Zambia, Uganda, Sudan, Somalia, Niger, Madagascar, Rwanda and others participated.

Dr. Ashok K Chauhan, Founder President, Amity Group, Mr. Atul Chauhan- Chancellor, Amity University, Uttar Pradesh felicitated eminent nuclear scientist Dr. Anil Kakodkar with an honorary doctorate degree in Science (D.Sc.) for his exceptional vision, deep commitment to research, propagation of scientific enquiry, continuous exemplary efforts in innovating and improving technology.

Giving his acceptance speech, Dr. Kakodkar expressed his gratitude, and said that education is one of the most important tools for empowerment of people living in cities and villages.

He acknowledged that in a large country like India, there is a problem to reach everyone. He stressed on the importance of the entry of non-government entities into the education industry and do what government entities are not able to do.

He said rducation has three layers- first, it enables a person to learn from the lowest level all the way to the frontiers of knowledge, second, it facilitates the implementation of procedural skills and third, it helps in acquiring relevant skills. All these three layers of education exist in holistic learning environment, which is provided by Amity University.

Responding to the query on what is lacking in Indian research, Dr. Kakodkar said Indians work as individuals and not as teams.

He suggested that teaching and research has to be aligned to enrich the quality of research and teaching. He also called for educational institutes to work together with industry to mutually benefit each other and progress.

Blessing the graduands, Dr. Ashok K Chauhan shared his mantra for success which he lucidly explained through the acronym "BHAAG" where B stands for Behavioral Science, H stands for Hardwork with Strategy, A for Attitude, another A for Ambition and G for God.

During the convocation, corporate Awards were presented to the best performers.

The Shri Data Ram Shingalji Shield was awarded to Maitri Bardaloi from Amity Law School.

On Saturday, 2,410 graduands of Amity Institute of Biotechnology, Amity School of Engineering and Technology and Amity Institute of Nanotechnology and other institutes will receive their degrees and diplomas.

Prof. Yash Pal- eminent Scientist and Educator and Dr. Pradeep Chowbey - Director, Max Institute of Minimal Access, Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (MAMBS) at Max Healthcare Institute Ltd., New Delhi will be conferred with D.Scs.
