Spiritual leader and humanitarian Mata Amritanandamayi Devi met with several members of the US Congress , and discussed with them the plight of large numbers of unaccompanied minors from Central American countries who are currently being detained by the US Border Patrol.

The meeting, which took place in the US Capitol Building at Washington DC, was held at the request of US Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (California).

As for the children, the meeting noted that they were fleeing extreme violence in their native countries and had been encouraged to seek shelter in the US.

This was the second year in a row that Roybal-Allard had invited Amma, as the icon based in her Amritapuri ashram in this south Kerala district is known the world over, for such a meeting.

The meeting took place at the conclusion of what was Amma's 28th annual summer tour of the US.
