Union Commerce Minister Anand Sharma on Wednesday criticized Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, saying that by bringing Modi to the forefront portrays the bankruptcy of the BJP and it was a disaster harping on the so called "Gujarat model", as the debt incurred during latter's tenure on state treasury has risen due to revenue loss and crony capitalism.
Sharma said Modi was portraying a false picture of development among the voters.
"There is a reason behind all this (Gujarat's growing debt) revenue loss, loss to the income of the state and crony capitalism which is being advocated. Under Modi's reign there is a tradition which has been formed and several such issues have arisen on which question marks have been raised. Several decisions too are being questioned and the way the state has been suffering," said Sharma.
Commenting on Modi's wide advertising and publicity campaign, Sharma alleged that BJP has ensured that it puts all the focus on the projection of one Man.
"We have learnt that 10,000 crore rupees are being spent on BJP and Modi's campaign," he alleged.
"There is a robust plan for publicity by Narendra Modi and Bharatiya Janata Party and the whole campaign is targeted to project one man who has been placed above the society, religion and the country," Sharma added.
