Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel today tied a rakhi to Gujarat Governor OP Kohli on the occasion of Rakshbandhan, which is being celebrated across the country today.

The first woman Chief Minister of Gujarat also tied rakhis to specially-abled children in Gandhinagar.

President Pranab Mukherjee and Vice President Hamid Ansari have also extended their wishes to the people of the country on the occasion of Rakshabandhan.

The president said, "The festival of Rakhi spreads harmony and celebrates brotherhood. Rakhi is a sacred thread of protection embellished with the affection of a sister for her brother. It symbolizes the inseparable bond of love between brothers and sisters. This gesture is not a mere ritual, but a powerful act that obligates everyone to ensure the safety and security of women."

"May this festival be an occasion for re-dedication to the well-being of women, particularly the girl child," he added.
