Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leader K. Kavitha on Thursday said the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, which paves way for the Polavaram Project, was passed in the Lok Sabha without a proper discussion on it, and added that the bill is against the interests of tribals.
"The Polavaram Project was always a bone of contention between Andhra and Telengana. But today, a bill was passed which proposed merger of some parts of Telangana with Andhra Pradesh. We were opposing this bill since this bill was unconstitutional," said Kavitha.
"The government has to discuss the bill with the State Assembly first but it did not happen. It was directly tabled in the bill and was passed. Since the BJP has the majority in the house, the bill was not discussed," she added.
Kavitha said that in the Polavaram Project, around 10 lakh tribals will be displaced, and added that the TRS will approach the court in order to protect rights of the tribals.
The Bill which proposes merging of some villages and mandals of Telangana with Seemandhra was passed in the Lok Sabha earlier today, amidst opposition from TRS, BJD and some other parties.
