Lack of 'theatre manners' took an ugly turn when a couple was allegedly shot at by a retired police officer who became annoyed with their act of sending texts while sitting inside a Florida theatre, before a showing of 'Lone Survivor'.

The suspect, identified as retired police captain, Curtis Reeves, 71, had asked the victims Chad and Nichole Oulson several times to stop texting and then left the Cobb Grove 16 Theater.

When Reeves returned, Chad asked him if he reported his cellphone use to the theatre authorities that sparked a verbal brawl, in which Reeves took out his gun and shot Chad in the chest, ABC News reports.

Chad died of the gunshot, and his wife, Nichole, sustained wounds to her hand that she had put on Chad's chest to block the bullet.

Investigating officer, Sheriff Chris Nocco said that the victim was on his cellphone and texting, and he was making some kind of noise that led to an altercation.

Reeves was held by an off-duty Sumter County deputy who was also present in the theater at the time of incidence.

The suspect has been charged with second-degree homicide, the report added.
