Annual 45-day fishing ban begins in Tamil Nadu

the 45-day fishing ban in the eastern coastal zone was enforced from last midnight in Tamil Nadu.

During the period, fishermen in mechanized boats do not venture into the sea. It is hard times for fishermen as fishing ban has been enforced from midnight in the eastern coast of Tamil Nadu.

The 45 day fishing ban for mechanized boats is enforced for fish species propagation under the Tamil Nadu Fisheries Regulation Act.

The main aim is to safeguard fish in their breeding season and increase the fish catch. The ban will be enforced till end of May.

Each fishermen family will be given Rs 4000 as compensation by the state government during the ban period. The fishermen will utilize the ban period to repair their mechanized boats and mend their fishing nets.
