Another price hike for petrol and diesel

Oil companies have hiked petrol prices by 70 paise litre and diesel by 50 paise per litre, which will be in effect from midnight today.

The price hike is in inclusive of state taxes.

Accordingly, petrol per litre will now cost Rs. 71.28 in Delhi, Rs. 74.49 in Chennai, Rs. 78.61 in Mumbai and 78.64 in Kolkata.

Meanwhile, the revised diesel cost per litre will be Rs. 51.40 in Delhi, Rs. 55.74 in Kolkata, Rs. 58.23 in Mumbai and Rs. 54.76 in Chennai.

This is the fifth hike in petrol prices in two months, whereas diesel prices have been hiked seven times since January this year.

 

Earlier, Indian Oil Corporation said that the price hike was necessitated because of the appreciation in global prices.

The falling rupee, which plays a significant role in the price of fuel, closed at 60.40 against the U.S. dollar on Wednesday.
