If Sam Smith isn't available to collect his "Best New Artist" title at the 2015 BET awards, Anthony Anderson will wear his wig and do it for him, but not without a joke.
Wearing Smith's signature look, the 44-year-old actor collected the award on the singer's behalf, saying that the 23-year-old singer could not be here because "he's white.
The host added that he had thought that Smith wouldn't win but BET showed that they love him too, reported People magazine.
As a play on the singer's hit song 'Stay With Me,' the 'Black-ish' actor held the award and sang, "This is going to stay with me because you didn't show up for BET. Although this trophy is yours it's going to stay with me."
Congratulating the 'Lay Me Down' hit-maker for his much deserved award, Anderson asked him to come by his house next week to pick up his award.
