Kohli, now has become the first Indian skipper to score a double-century in the longest-format of the game away from home. It was Kohli's maiden first-class 200 as well, ESPNcricinfo reported.

The skipper, whose previous highest score (169) in Tests came against Australia at the MCG 2014, also reached his 3000 Test runs from 2000 runs on the opening day.

However, Kohli was dismissed on the very first ball after lunch.

Earlier, Shikhar Dhawan gave his side a perfect start by scoring 85 runs, which included nine boundaries and one six.
