Defence Minister A.K. Antony on Friday rubbished reports that Chinese troops had occupied 640 km of Indian territory near the border in northeast Ladakh in April.

"There is no question of India ceding to China any part of Indian territory. This government keeps a constant watch on the borders and will do all it can to protect India's integrity," he said in a statement in Parliament, while referring to a report prepared by the National Security Advisory Board (NSAB), which was submitted to the government by its chairman Shyam Saran.

Antony's statement resulted in an uproar from the opposition benches in the Lok Sabha, as they repeatedly demanded an expansive elaboration of the statement related to the Chinese incursions.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath earlier in the day told media outside the Parliament that the government has nothing to hide or conceal in the matter which is of national interest and national importance.

He said, if needed, the matter will also be taken up for discussion, and added that the Defence Minister's statement in Parliament will bring to light the real situation.

The Defence Minister will now make his statement on the issue at 3 p.m. in the Rajya Sabha.

Media reports had said that Chinese army had intruded into Indian territory and also prevented Indian troops from patrolling up to the Line of Actual Control in Ladakh sector.
