The police on Saturday began investigations into a case in which Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member of Parliament (MP) from Uttar Pradesh GVL Naramsimha Rao's car was allegedly involved in an accident in Andhra Pradesh's Guntur district.
"The accident took place on the Kolanukonda highway and it led to the death of one woman who died on the spot. Her name was Anjamma. Another woman by the name Sailaja was severely injured and we admitted her to the hospital. Her condition is stable now. We have filed a case and started an investigation," said B. Brahmaiah, Circle Inspector of Tadepalli Police
The BJP leader was returning from a party meeting on Friday evening. He later claimed that he was sleeping in the back seat of the car when the accident took place hitting the two women on the highway.
"I was at the spot until police came, the injured woman was taken to the hospital and a vehicle arrived to take the deceased lady to the hospital. I will visit their families to express heartfelt condolences and all support," Rao tweeted.
Rao further clarified that though another car had come to take him from the spot, he waited there until the ambulance arrived to take the injured woman to the hospital.
"I was returning from a party meeting in our party office car. Another car came within 20 minutes of the incident to take me. However, I waited until the ambulance arrived to take the injured lady to the hospital and another vehicle arrived to take the deceased lady's body. Anything else is fiction," he further wrote.
