Apple's Chief Financial Officer, Peter Oppenheimer, is reportedly heading for an exit from the tech giant to join Goldman Sachs' board of directors.

Announcing Oppenheimer's retirement, Apple said that current Vice President of Finance, Luca Maestri, would replace him.

According to CNN, Oppenheimer has overseen a period of massive growth at Apple since his appointment in 2004, when the tech giant's market value catapulted 54 times to 471 billion dollars.

Earlier Oppenheimer had been a finance executive at payroll company Automatic Data Processing and a technology consultant at Coopers and Lybrand, a precursor to Pricewaterhouse Coopers.

The report said that Oppenheimer would start serving as an independent director on Goldman Sachs' 13-member board immediately and help advise the investment bank's committees on nominating and public responsibilities, as well as the group that oversees audit, risk, compensation and corporate governance.
