Apple's head of marketing Phil Schiller, while has reportedly said that the iPhone was a 'bet-the-company product',

Schiller said that there were huge risks with the first iPhone as Apple was putting in all the resources from the successful iPod in creating this product.

According to Cnet, the chief noted that Apple had started working on the iPhone after it had already started iPad development and initially, about 100 people worked on the smartphone and now 'almost everyone' at Apple works on the device.

Schiller revealed this prior to the third day retrial for damages that Samsung owes Apple for infringing on five of its patents through 13 of its devices, where the tech giant has asked for an additional 380 million dollars in damages, while the South Korean manufacturer has maintained that it only needs to pay 52 million dollars.
