Former England cricketer Geoffrey Boycott has expressed apprehensions over Andrew Strauss being shortlisted for the post of ECB's new director of cricket, warning that 'everything will stay the same' and there will be no revival of England's cricket fortunes.

Strauss has been tipped to replace former England wicketkeeper Paul Downton, who was sacked from the post of managing director last month.

Boycott said that they have a cautious captain (Alastair Cook) and a cautious coach (Peter Moores), and if it is Strauss, he would be the same.

The former obdurate opener said that everything would stay the same as they would just go with the same people, Sport24 reported.

Strauss likes Cook, and therefore, he would go with the current captain and nothing would change, he added.

Apart from Strauss, former England captains Michael Vaughan and Alec Stewart have also expressed an interest in the role.

England have slumped to fourth in the ICC Test rankings following their five-wicket defeat to the West Indies on Sunday.
