Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development Rajiv Pratap Rudy, who has been placed in charge of earthquake assessment, on Saturday said that the earthquake that swept Nepal and Northern India has had its impact felt in Bihar.
"The Prime Minister is himself monitoring the impact of the earthquake across the country. We received a call from him, wanting to know the situation in Bihar, and as I said to him, power has been switched off in North Bihar due to safety reasons," Rudy told ANI.
"The Sitamarhi district has reported three deaths; we have to confirm it further. Other regions have been affected as well, including in the Purnia district, which had already been affected by the recent severe storm," he added.
Rudy also said that he will be travelling to Bihar to take stock of the situation.
"The Prime Minister is holding an emergency crisis-management meet at 3 pm today. I will be travelling to Bihar to relay information to the Prime Minister," he said.
According to reports, the epicentre of the tremors was said to be in Pokhra, Nepal, with the European Mediterranean Seismological Center stating that the earthquake measured 7.4 on the Richter scale.
Scores of people are said to have been killed in Nepal in wake of the earthquake.
