The first edition of Araang League recently kicked off at Hundung Bakshi ground in Ukhrul district of Manipur under the theme of "For the Good of All". The 10- day long championship is being organized by the Araang league with the partnership of Assam Rifles and several private sponsors.
Five times World Women's Boxing Champion M C Mary Kom inaugurated the tournament and called upon the youths of the district to show more interest in sports besides education. "Expose your talent at the outside world," she said while addressing the inaugural function.
The tournament is being organized with an aim to tap the potential of young football players from the North East and provide a platform to them to showcase their skills.
Altogether, 14 teams from Manipur will compete in the tournament. The winner of the tournament will receive Rs 1 lakh cash along with trophy and certificate while the 1st runners up and 2nd runners up will get Rs 60,000 and Rs 30,000 respectively.
The Best team, best goal keeper and top scorer will be given Rs. 10,000, Rs. 2,500 and Rs. 2,500 respectively.
