Prime Minister Narendra Modi reportedly met Chief of Army Staff General Bikram Singh and Vice-Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Dalbir Suhag on Friday to discuss the army's preparedness, as also to assess the security situation prevailing along India's borders.

According to a Times Now report, the meeting between the Prime Minister and General Bikram Singh lasted for three hours. Defence Minister Arun Jaitley was also present at the meeting.

Internal security in the north east and in Jammu and Kashmir was also reportedly discussed during the meeting.

The channel's report said that it has been decided that Jaitley will visit Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday to assess the security situation on ground in the wake of this morning's ceasefire violation along the Line of Control by Pakistan troops.

Indian and Pakistani troops were engaged in firing at the LoC, after Pakistan troops allegedly violated the ceasefire early this morning.

Reports say that Pakistan opened the fire in the morning and fired rockets and mortars, after which Indian troops also retaliated.

Earlier, blasts at the Line of Control (LoC) in J and K's Poonch left one jawan dead and eight others, including a Major, injured on Thursday.

An Improvised Explosive Device was reportedly used to trigger the blast with a remote controlled device from across the LoC.
