The Indian Army deployed in Jammu and Kashmir paid tributes to fallen heroes during the 1971 India-Pakistan war.
The General Officer in Command (GOC-in-C) Northern Army Command, Lieutenant General Sanjiv Chachra led the 'Nowshera Day' tribute on Friday.
"It is a very happy day since it is 'Nowshera Day'. On the same day, a soldier recaptured the Nowshera Post from the enemies and laid down his life. For us, it is a happy day, because we also remember their sacrifices. There are many people who have come here to mark this day, so this makes it all the more an important day," said Lieutenant General Chachra.
He also added that the Indian Army is always alert at the Line of Control (LoC) to foil any infiltration bid from the other side of the border.
India and Pakistan have fought two of their three wars since independence in 1947 over Muslim-majority Kashmir, which they both claim in full, but rule in part.
