Militants taking shelter in the Kalaroos Forests of Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara District have reportedly killed an Indian Army soldier and injured another in an encounter on Saturday morning.

The encounter with four to five militants is reportedly still on.

On Friday, in an interaction with Japanese media persons ahead of his five-day official visit to Kyoto and Tokyo, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had expressed his disappointment over the repeated ceasefire violations by Pakistan troops along the Line of Control. (LoC) and over that country's envoy engaging with Kashmiri separatist leaders in New Delhi before the now cancelled foreign secretary-level talks.

Meanwhile, the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of Rajasthan Police has reportedly cautioned and alerted the Border Security Force (BSF) to intensify patrolling in the border areas of the state, especially in Bikaner, Jodhpur and Barmer that adjoin Pakistan in the wake of reports that a group of terrorists may be attempting to cross into Indian Territory.
