Dubbing Prime Minister Narendra Modi as 'arrogant, the Congress Party on Thursday said the former is intolerant to criticism, adding that he enjoys using foul language.

"The Prime Minister is intolerant to criticism. He lives in denial. He is also arrogant. He has injected bitterness in the political narrative," Congress leader Anand Sharma told the media.

"We have been repeatedly urging the Prime Minister to desist from doing this, but it very clear that he actually relishes using foul language, insulting and berating the opposition," he added.

Condemning the Prime Minister's 'raincoat' remark for former prime minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, Sharma said Prime Minister Modi has dragged political debate to unacceptable low depths.

"He (PM Modi) has lowered the dignity of his office repeatedly. He has used language which is unacceptable in political debates. He has dragged political debate to unacceptable low depths," he said.

"The manner in which the Prime Minister has conducted his own speeches, the language that he has used and the fact that he has deliberately provoked and targeted the opposition, it is unbecoming of a Prime Minister," he added.

Asserting that the Congress represents the correct values and integrity, Sharma said that they boycotted the Prime Minister after his remark.

"The Congress Party alone and alone represents the correct values and integrity required in Indian democracy. We condemn it. We want to make clear that we boycotted the Prime Minister yesterday. We walked out," he added.

The strong condemnation by the Congress comes a day after Prime Minister Modi accused his predecessor Dr. Manmohan Singh of letting corruption run free under his nose but managing to steer clear of any charges.

"Dr. Manmohan has played a significant role in the economic system of India. But during the most corrupt regime in the nation, there was not a single corruption charge against him. This art of taking bath wearing a raincoat must be learnt from Manmohan Singh," the Prime Minister said.
