Arsenal crashed out of the Champions League as they failed to progress into the quarterfinal round for the fifth straight season despite a 2-0 win over Monaco in the second leg of their last-16 tie.
Following a 3-1 defeat at home, Arsenal required at least three away goals to advance to the next round on Tuesday night.
Oliver Giroud put Arsenal ahead in the 36th minute through a close-range finish before Aaron Ramsey came off the bench to double the lead in the 79th minute.
Giroud almost added a third one but his late on attempt was skillfully saved by Monaco's goalkeeper Daniel Subasic.
With the win, Monaco advanced to the quarterfinal round for the first time since 2004 and will join defending champions Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Paris St-Germain, Porto and Atletico Madrid in Friday's draw.
