Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has finally signed Real Madrid midfielder Mesut Ozil for 42 million pounds, making it the second biggest deal in British football history.
According to the Mirror, Wenger has faced accusations all summer long that he is spendthrift, afraid to spend money and has bungled their transfer window after missing out on a string of big-name targets such as Luis Suarez and Gonzalo Higuain.
However, the manager saved the best to last with the move to snatch Ozil and convince him to join despite strong interest from French champions Paris Saint-Germain, the report said.
Arsenal desperately wanted a striker to bolster their squad, but Wenger believes the quality of his midfield is now so good that they are genuine title contenders, the report added.
