German world cup winner Peter Mertesacker has credited yoga for him overcoming his trauma after the event in Brazil. He said yoga had helped him to recover mental focus and
physical fitness.
Mertesacker, who will be leading Arsenal in the FA Cup final against Aston Villa on Saturday, has returned to form during the second half of the season.
The German defender performs two hours of yoga every week and says it has become as habitual as playing football.
Mertesacker said the first month after the FIFA World Cup got over were very difficult, as he had to forget the feeling of being a world champion and concentrate on delivering during the new season, the Independent reported.
He said trying yoga was his way to achieve both mental and physical fitness.
