Swedish artist Lars Vilks, who drew a cartoon of the Prophet Muhammed in 2007, has said that the shooting in Copenhagen during a free speech event he had organized was "a tragedy, but it was expected."
According to ABC News, the shooting in Denmark that left one man dead and three police officers wounded did not injure Vilks.
Vilks has been threatened several times after he drew a cartoon of the Prophet in 2007. He said that he believes he was the intended target.
According to the Danish police, the gunman was acting alone.
The police have not revealed the identity of the attacker but several media reports widely named him as Omar El-Hussein.
