Arun Jaitley to unveil Gandhi statue in London

Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will unveil Mahatma Gandhi statue outside UK Parliament on Saturday.

UK Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne confirmed the news via a series of tweets.

"Great meeting with Indian Fin Min @arunjaitley - committed to building on progress already made to increase bilateral trade and investment."

"Gandhi statue will be monument to our close ties and contribution of UK Indian community. A father of democracy in front of mother of parliaments."

"Indian finance minister here to unveil historic Gandhi statue in parliament sq which William Hague and I announced in Delhi last summer."

Last year, Osborne and UK Foreign Secretary William Hague announced that 10, Downing Street would install a statue of Mahatma Gandhi opposite the British Parliament. The unveiling of the statue will reportedly be attended by UK Prime Minister David Cameron, Culture Secretary Sajid Javid and other dignitaries.
