Chelsea player Ashley Cole has expressed his sympathy for teammate Michael Essien's father's death on Twitter, as his pal rejoined Ghana's national team for their 2014 World Cup qualifier against Zambia.
Cole said that his thoughts were with Essien and his family and he was sorry for his loss.
Essien said that it was hard to take the news but God knew best, and thanked fans for their support.
The player was benched as his side failed to win the European Super Cup in a big match against Bayern Munich last Friday.
Ghana is scheduled to play Zambia on September 6.
