Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and former South Africa batsman Herschelle Gibbs got involved in a Twitter spat on Monday, but the war of words took an ugly turn when the former recalled the latter's match-fixing episode.
The Twitter conversation started when Ashwin posted a video promoting a shoe brand, to which Gibbs replied by saying that, hopefully the new shoes will make the off-spinner run faster.
Gibbs' joke did not go down well with Ashwin as he brought up the former Proteas cricketer's involvement in the infamous match-fixing saga in 2000.
The bowler replied to Gibbs', saying, "Surely not as fast you did mate, unfortunately, I wasn't as blessed as you were. But I was blessed with a wonderfully ethical mind not to fix games which put food on my plate."
In an attempt to pacify the situation, Ashwin invited Gibbs on a dinner and also pulled down his 'fixing scandal' tweet.
Gibbs was involved in match fixing affair with former captain Hansie Cronje in 2000.
