Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has come out in support of beleaguered Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni after the latter suggested that he is willing to resign from captaincy if that guarantees a change of fortunes for the national side.

India suffered their first-ever ODI series defeat against Bangladesh after the tourists lost the second ODI of the three-match series by six-wickets in Dhaka on Sunday.

Describing Dhoni as a 'legend' of Indian cricket, Ashwin said that he has done much for the nation and insisted that it is not fair to blame the captain for the whole team's performance, Sport24 reported.

Ashwin, who is also Dhoni's team mate in the Indian Premier League franchise Chennai Super Kings, admitted that they have failed as a group, adding that they need to grow up as a group as well.

India will aim to salvage some pride when they will meet Bangladesh in the third and final ODI of the series on Wednesday in Dhaka.
