The 40th All Assam Chess Championship 2016, was successfully concluded on December 18 at AAU Indoor Stadium here.
Children under the age group of 9, 13 and 15 participated in the four day event that commenced on December 15.
The event was organised by the Jorhat District Chess Association under the aegis of the All Assam Chess Association with an aim to give more encouragement and opportunity to budding talents of the North-East Region and give a platform to deserving players to achieve their goals.
It was also aimed at producing national and international level players.
"From this competition, the topmost topmost player different categories will be selected to represent the state of the Assam. Expenditure for all these will be borne by the chess association," said Pranab Dutta, organizing committee secretary.
Altogether 179 players from all of Assam's districts participated.
All winners and runner-ups in each category will be selected to represent Assam in a national level competition.
