Assam: 5 Rohingyas arrested from Guwahati Railway station

Five Rohingyas were arrested by Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Guwahati Railway Station here on Tuesday.

Talking to ANI, RPF Inspector Prasanna Daimari said, "The RPF first apprehended two boys and a girl and based on the interrogation, two other boys were arrested. All of the arrested Rohingyas aged between 19 to 22 years."

"The arrested Rohingyas have been identified as Makakmyayum Sahenas, Mohammad Zubar, Kamal Hussain, Nurul Hakim and Kalimula," Daimari added.

The RPF official further said, "During the investigation, it has come to light that they were earlier arrested by Manipur Police in 2018."

"They were trying to obtain a certificate of Reguee Status from United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and for the same reason they were going to New Delhi when they were caught today," the RPF official added.

 

Speaking to ANI, Mohammad Zuber said, "I used to live in Myanmar and I am a Rohingya but after clashes there, we came to India through Manipur-Myanmar border."

Zuber further said, "We have been living in India for the past one year. I was earlier arrested in Manipur and were put in jail for 11 months...When we were released from jail, we were advised to take a refugee card from Delhi."

"I was caught in Guwahati while I was going to Delhi to meet officials of UNHCR to take refugee card.," he added.
