Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Saturday said Assam was disturbed because of the presence of Bangladeshi immigrants, while Pakistan was disturbed because of him.
"Assam lies next to Bangladesh, and Gujarat lies near to Pakistan. Today, Assam is disturbed due to Bangladeshi immigrants, but the whole of Pakistan is disturbed because of me," said Modi.
"It is up to the people of Assam to decide if they want to keep facing these issues, or change the future of Assam. As soon as our (BJP or NDA-led) Government is formed in Delhi, I will destroy or remove all detention camps here. All you need to do is trust me," he said at a rally in Silchar.
"The government has violated human rights in the name of detention camps," he added.
He further said that Assam had been looted off its abundant resources.
"Assam has abundance of water resources, oil and petroleum, but who has destroyed my Assam. Who has given anyone the permission to do it?' asked Modi.
