Assam: Gadkari lays foundation stones for 4-lane highway

Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari on Friday laid the foundation stone for a four-lane highway in Pulibor in the Jorhat region of Assam.

An amount of Rs 5,300 crore has been sanctioned for the highway.

Inaugurating the highway, Gadkari said that the National Highway Infrastructure and Development Cooperation will look after the overall connectivity of the North East region. He also stressed upon the need for the development of the Inland Water Transport in the Brahmaputra and assured financial assistant from Centre.

The minister also announced that a capacity building workshop cum training for North East contractors will soon be conducted in Guwahati in order to ensure that local contractors get the maximum benefits through various projects.

 

Among those present at the event were Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Youth Affairs and Sports Sarbanada Sonawal, Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju, among others.
