Condemning the killing of 33 people by the banned outfit National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) in Kokrajhar and Sonitpur districts of Assam, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on Wednesday said that central and state governments should work together to punish the culprits.
"I express grief over the incident. This is a brutal and cowardly act by the terrorist outfit. The central and state government should work together to catch the culprits," said Gogoi.
Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson GVL Narsimha Rao too condemned the attack terming it as gruesome.
"It is a gruesome act. The Centre will take all preventive steps so that such incidents are not repeated," Rao said.
Thirty-three people were killed on Tuesday evening in attacks by NDFB in Kokrajhar and Sonitpur districts of Assam, following which indefinite curfew has been imposed in five areas of Sonitpur district.
According to reports, the state Home department has instructed the administration of all the districts to remain alert.
The world heritage site, Manas National Park has also been closed for three days in a bid to intensify operation against militants.
President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh have also condemned the attack.
Rajnath Singh will also be visiting the state later today, in order to take stock of the situation.
