Over 70 percent polling was recorded on the first day of the polling in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday. The polling percentage, which is higher as compared to both the Lok Sabha elections held earlier this year and the previous state assembly polls, is likely to go up.
"Overall so far, the voter turnout has been 70 percent. This figure is likely to go up and compares favourably with 64.97 percent in the 2008 assembly elections in the corresponding districts. The figure was 52.63 percent in the Lok Sabha elections," Deputy Election Commissioner Vinod Zutshi told the media here while giving details of the polling in the first phase in Jammu and Kashmir.
"This seems to be the highest voter turnout in the state. This figure is current as of 5 pm," he added.
Zutshi further said that no untoward incident has come into light of the Election Commission so far.
"There was no poll boycott of any kind nor has any reportable incident taken place at any of the polling stations," he stated.
"The overall cash ceased was Rs 55 lakhs and the total liquor was very minimal," he added.
