Astronomers have discovered a bright, mysterious geologic object on Cassini mission radar images of Ligeia Mare, the second-largest sea on Saturn's moon Titan amd have named it "Magic Island".
The spot, which is considered a "transient feature," may be the first observation of dynamic, geological processes in Titan's northern hemisphere.
The scientists said that the disciovery tells them that the liquids in Titan's northern hemisphere are not simply stagnant and unchanging, but rather that changes do occur.
Jason Hofgartner, from Cornell University, said that they don't know precisely what caused this 'magic island' to appear, but they would like to study it further.
The study was published in the journal Nature Geoscience.
