An attack in the western Chinese region of Xinjiang reportedly killed 15 people and wounded 14 others.

According to the BBC, state media said that the violence started when a group of "terrorists" attacked civilians in Shache county, 200km from the regional capital of Kashgar.

China's state-run Xinhua news agency reported that the assailants hurled bombs at people on a street lined with food stalls, before stabbing them with knives.

The region has been a witness to raging violence that has claimed up to 150 lives this year.

The report said that eleven of the dead are said to be the attackers.
