Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi has today proposed to the Supreme Court to exempt 46 coal blocks from cancellation, as they are in absolute readiness of production.
The Advocate General said, "If the Supreme Court wants, it can cancel the coal blocks allotments, but 46 coal blocks are fully functional and that should not be cancelled in wake of their utility and the coal shortage in the country."
"The position of power is also very critical. If cancellation is done, we want to go ahead quickly with auctioning," he added.
In total, there are 218 blocks, of which 80 have already been cancelled. Out of the remaining 138, 46 can be further exempted.
In these, 12 are ultra power projects that have already been exempted by the apex court.
