Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Atul Anjan today condemned the recent attacks against people from the Northeastern regions and said that the government should also be proactive when it comes to dealing with such cases.

Atul Anjan told ANI, "Violent attacks on north-eastern students often become national news. No matter where the student is from, whether he's from North-East, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh or southern India, people must stay away from the incidents of violence, clashes etc. They ought not to exhibit indecent behaviour or use abusive words to avoid needless confrontations."

His comments have come after the brutal beating of a couple of North-Eastern origin by four men in Gurgaon. The couple is now admitted in a hospital with serious injuries and an accused has been arrested by the Haryana police.

"Lot of people from North-East come to cities like Delhi and Bangalore to study. State and central government should take care that more CCTV cameras are installed where these people live in majority." said Atul Anjan.

He also said that perpetrators of such crimes should be caught fast and be tried in a fast track courts so that the punishment can be meted out to them within 6 months. He also demanded punishment for people who even pass racial comments.

Recently, a 30-year-old BPO employee from Manipur was beaten to death in Kotla Mubarakpur, South Delhi by four assailants who fled after committing the heinous act.

The victim was later identified as 29-year-old Akha Salouni from Manipur.
