Australia has announced that the country would wage war against Islamic State militants with the first airstrikes involving RAF jet fighters.

Six RAAF F/A-18 Super Hornet have been officially listed for airstrike orders in the United States led global coalition against IS militants in Iraq, reported News.com.au.

Around 200 special forces commandos are expected to get legal clearance today to supply boots on the ground support for advising the Iraqi army on battle against IS.

Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott gave a nod for Australian combat operations in Iraq.
