Australia's FIFA World Cup campaign ended on Monday with 3-0 loss to 2010 champions Spain.

Both sides finished their 2014 FIFA World Cup campaign in Curitiba, reports the Daily Telegraph.

Ange Postecoglou's side started brightly, looking confident on the ball, but after a lethargic start, once Vicente del Bosque's side got control of possession, it was a routine day at the office for the departing world champions.

Melbourne City bound striker David Villa opened the scoring with a wonderful back-heel goal after Andreas Iniesta unlocked Australia's defence with a superb throughball to right-back Juanfran.

Fernando Torres and Juan Mata rounded out the scoring in the second-half as Spain bowed out of the tournament, while the Socceroos' gallant campaign finished with zero points.
