An article in an English newspaper has urged Australia to learn from the lessons of Steve Waugh in order to restore past glories in the Ashes.

According to the Independent, Angus Fraser and Allan Border were embarrassed looking at the debacle of Australian cricket and spoke in the press about their hollow feelings.

Steve Waugh produced one of the most astonishing acts of individual commitment and will in his team's 4-1 triumph in 2001 and acted as a complete sportsman, the report said.

The report added that Michael Clarke had received much praise for his batting skill and his aggressive tactics but was simply overwhelmed by the problems of a failed cricket culture.
