Australia overwhelmed England to secure a hat-trick of World T20 titles, cruising to a six-wicket victory on Sunday.
Restricting England to 105 for 8, Australia scored 106 for the loss of four wickets. The chase was fittingly led by skipper Meg Lanning with a powerful 44. She also ended up as the leading run-scorer in the event.
The key difference was Australia striking four siexes to England's nil. During the power plays, England could only score 24 for 1, while Australia scored 43 for 1.
The main threat to Australia was Anya Shrubsole, the tournament's leading wicket-taker, but with a small total to chase, they knew they did not have to over-attack against her although it did not stop Lanning putting her over the boundary - it was the ultimate statement from Australia's captain.
England's batting was below par during the tournament, and only Charlotte Edwards played close to her best.
They never threatened to break the shackles.
Lanning creditted the win to training, timing and a positive approach to every match. The final win was just perfect, she added. England skipper Charlotte Edwards said Australia were deserving winners, but rued the fact the batters could not clear the ropes throughout the tournament. Australia played better than England in all departments of the game, she added.
