A new study has revealed that that a person fails to remember four facts, items or events each day, including leaving home without a phone or wallet, or forgetting to defrost meat.

The survey, which was commissioned by Post-it sticky note pads, found the average person forgets things on 1,460 occasions every year, the Daily Express reported.

A poll of 2,000 adults found that the top two most commonly forgotten things are people not remembering why they went into a room, and misplacing keys.

Researchers found that men are twice as likely to forget a partner's birthday or an anniversary, and surprisingly 20 men had missed a funeral by being absent-minded.

It was found that women show the most frustration when losing things, and one in four women admitted to lying if they forgot something big.
