B'desh: Gulshan cafe attack bomb supplier put on 7-day remand

A Dhaka court has placed the bomb supplier for last year's deadly Holey Artisan Bakery attack in the upscale Gulshan suburb on a seven-day remand in connection with the case.

Metropolitan Magistrate AHM Toha passed the order today after Humayun Kabir, an inspector of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit (CTTC) and also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, produced Sohel Mahfuz before his court with a 10-day remand request, reports the Daily Star.

Mahfuz was arrested along with three accomplices in the bordering Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj yesterday.

Five assailants had entered the Holey Artisan Bakery on July 1, with crude bombs, machetes, pistols, and took several dozen hostages, including foreigners and locals.

 

In all, 29 people were killed, including 20 hostages - 18 foreigners and two Bangladesh citizens- two police officers, five gunmen and two bakery staff before law enforcement teams laid siege in the early hours of July 2, killing the terrorists.
